#4 – San Antonio Spurs
2014 NBA Champions

Number 4 Seed: Western Conference

The sting of losing the 2013 NBA Finals was still on the Spurs mind. They had the lead with seconds remaining in Game 6, but lost that game in overtime, and then Game 7. The Spurs were motivated and ready to go. When the season started, the Spurs won 12 out of 13 games, including 11 in a row. With the offense clicking, the Spurs continued their hot play, winning 62 games, including 19 in a row. In the postseason, they would face a familiar face, Dirk Nowitzki & the Dallas Mavericks.  After winning Game 1, the Spurs would lose the next two games. They bounced back in the next two, taking a 3-2 series lead, before closing out the Mavs in Gams 7, putting an end to an opponent that pushed the Spurs to the limit. In the next round, the Spurs took care of the Blazers in five, advancing to the West Finals. Awaiting them was Oklahoma City. The Thunder swept the Spurs in the regular season, and were feeling confident. Each team took care of home court in the first four games, setting the stage for a pivotal Game 5. The Spurs blew out the Thunder in Game 5, and jumped out to a huge lead in Game 6. In overtime, the Spurs bested the Thunder, to get to their second straight NBA Finals. Their opponent? The Miami Heat. Again. Just what the Spurs wanted. They get their second shot at the reigning two-time champions, after blowing their chance last year.  After a Game 1 blowout, the Spurs lost Game 2, and now the series was tied 1-1 going back to Miami. The Spurs proved this year was different. They won the next three games, in blowout fashion to regain the NBA title, avenging their heartbreaking loss last year. Kawhi Leonard won NBA Finals MVP for the first time in his career, making him the first player in NBA history to win NBA Finals MVP before becoming an All-Star.
