Coming off of a loss in the 1982 NBA Finals, the Philadelphia 76ers had one mission: Win the NBA Championship, at all costs. The Sixers acquired free agent C Moses Malone in a sign-and-trade with Houston and it immediately paid dividends. The Sixers jumped out to a 20-5 record, before winning a season-long 14 games in a row, improving their record to 34-5. The Sixers closed out the season with two more win steaks of 10 and seven games, and finished with 65 wins and the number one seed in the East. Their work was not finished, however. The aforementioned Moses Malone proclaimed this team would sweep the entire playoffs, telling a reporter the Sixers would go “fo, fo, fo”. The Sixers almost made Moses a fortune teller by going 12-1 in the postseason to win the NBA title, including sweeping the LA Lakers in the NBA Finals, avenging their loss the previous season. Moses Malone won NBA Finals MVP honors.
