Tier 1 – Early SB Favorites
1. Kansas City Chiefs
Last Game: W, 24-10 @ Chargers
Next Game: Week 4 vs Washington (MNF)
Last Week: 1
Brandon: Great start to the season. Chiefs look like they will compete for the top spot all season long.
Erick: Hunt is the truth, and the Chiefs haven’t done anything to lose the top spot so far.
2. Atlanta Falcons
Last Game: W, 30-27 @ Lions
Next Game: Week 4 vs Bills
Last Week: 3
B: Atlanta pulled out a lucky one on Sunday, but a win is a win. Matt Ryan has some bad luck with tipped INT’s.
E: They haven’t lost a game yet, and don’t show any signs of a Super Bowl hangover.
3. New England Patriots
Last Game: W, 36-33 vs Texans
Next Game: Week 4 vs Panthers
Last Week: 4
B: Tom Brady might be the best QB in the league, still. What a comeback, and at 40 years old, no less.
E: Brady just doesn’t slow down. He was able to drop 5 TD’s on a tough Texans defense.
Tier 2 – The Almost Contenders
4. Green Bay Packers
Last Game: W, 27-24 vs Bengals
Next Game: Week 4 vs Bears (TNF)
Last Week: 7
Brandon: Aaron Rodgers might be the best QB in the league, also. Packers survive with a late TD to avoid a shocking loss.
Erick: Something doesn’t seem quite right for the Packers so far, but they’re winning games, and as long as they have Aaron Rodgers, they’re going to remain a contender.
5. Oakland Raiders
Last Game: L, 10-27 @ Washington
Next Game: Week 4 @ Broncos
Last Week: 2
B: Got their butt whooped in Prime-time, but let’s not overreact. This Raider team will find the offensive groove again.
E: The Raiders were embarrassed by Washington, but based on how the Raiders looked the first two weeks, I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt for now.
6. Dallas Cowboys
Last Game: W, 28-17 @ Cardinals (MNF)
Next Game: Week 4 vs Rams
Last Week: 10
B: Dak can make all the throws, and proved he can carry a team with his arm. Jason Garrett had a dumb challenge last week, which is not a good sign for a possible tight, contested playoff game.
E: Good win for the Cowboys in a Prime-Time game on the road. They haven’t looked like one of the top 5 teams in the league yet, but they can start making a push.
7. Pittsburgh Steelers
Last Game: L, 17-23 @ Bears
Next Game: Week 4 vs Ravens
Last Week: 5
B: Just when I thought the Steelers could take a step forward, they get stuck in the mud. Road Big Ben is a worry for the Steelers.
E: I definitely didn’t see the Steelers losing to the Bears, but at least Brown, and Bell got going offensively. However Big Ben really needs to figure out how to solve his road game issues.
8. Tennessee Titans
Last Game: W, 33-27 vs Seahawks
Next Game: Week 4 @ Texans
Last Week: 9
B: The Titans are looking like the team I thought they could be entering the season. Power running, good defense and a very good QB in Mariota.
E: The Titans offense was slowed down week 1 against the Raiders, but they were able to score points on the Jaguars, and the Seahawks weeks 2, and 3. They have another tough test coming up, against the Texans, but have an opportunity for a statement win.
9. Detroit Lions
Last Game: L, 26-30 vs Falcons
Next Game: Week 4 @ Vikings
Last Week: 11
B: Old habits die hard. The Lions were robbed of a victory by the referees. Nonetheless, the Lions are much better than anticipated and should compete with the Packers all season.
E: Even though they lost to the Falcons, the Lions are still a top 10 team at the moment.
10. Denver Broncos
Last Game: W, 42-17 vs Cowboys
Next Game: Week 3 @ Bills
Last Week: 6
B: Denver showed it’s weakness last week, and it’s the QB position. Siemian makes some stupid mistakes at times, which ends up costing his team possessions.
E: Broncos fans shouldn’t worry too much after losing to a much-improved Bills team. Let’s see if Siemian can bounce back.
Tier 3 – Gotcha B*itch!
These teams revealed who they were in Week 3.
11. Minnesota Vikings
Last Game: W, 34-17 vs Buccaneers
Next Game: Week 4 vs Lions
Last Week: 14
B: The Vikings defense looks just like it did last year. Fast, smart and they make big plays. Dalvin Cook finally found the end-zone, who looks the part of an All-Pro running back.
E: It’s going to be the same all season long. The Vikings defense is scary, but even when Bradford returns, this team is still a QB away from being a serious contender.
12. Philadelphia Eagles
Last Game: W, 27-24 vs Giants
Next Game: Week 4 @ Chargers
Last Week: 15
B: Philadelphia pulled one out against the lowly Giants, but their Rookie kicker got some confidence. Wentz is ready to lead this team.
E: Beating the Giants isn’t too impressive, but the Eagles are 2-0 in the NFC East, and they are in 1st place.
13. Buffalo Bills
Last Game: W, 26-16 vs Broncos
Next Game: Week 4 @ Falcons
Last Week: 18
B: Buffalo is much, much better than we all thought. The subtraction of the Ryans added a lot to this team.
E: I was expecting the Bills to hang around towards the bottom of the rankings all season long, but they have proven me wrong so far. They finally seemed to look like a professional football team with professional football coaching.
14. Houston Texans
Last Game: L, 33-36 @ Patriots
Next Game: Week 4 vs Titans
Last Week: 19
B: DeShaun Watson. If you can recall my week one comment, this team would not grow until they started him. Watson is in, and even though they lost, he was beyond impressive.
E: The Texas have a great defense, and have been a QB away from being good. They seem to have found something good in Deshaun Watson.
15. Jacksonville Jaguars
Last Game: W, 44-7 vs Ravens (London)
Next Game: Week 4 vs Jets
Last Week: 22
B: An impressive win in front of their home crowd in London, the Jags now move to 2-1. Their defense looks very legit, maybe the best in the league.
E: The Jags defense is for real, and Blake Bortles is a baller, as long as he’s playing in England.
16. Washington Football Team
Last Game: W, 27-10 vs Raiders
Next Game: Week 4 @ Chiefs (MNF)
Last Week: 21
B: Kirk Cousins got some protection finally, and he looked awesome. Josh Norman is leading this defense with his play and his words.
E: I was ready to give up on Washington, but embarrassing a really good Raiders team changes this for me, and I have to give them some respect.
17. Baltimore Ravens
Last Game: L, 7-44 @ Jaguars (London)
Next Game: Week 4 vs Steelers
Last Week: 12
B: Ravens took the trip to London, and promptly got their ass whooped by Blake Bortles.
Erick: I’m not going to overreact and drop the Ravens too much in the ranking, because I like their Defense, but like I been saying all year, I don’t know how Flacco is going to hold up.
18. Los Angeles Rams
Last Game: W, 41-27 @ 49ers (TNF)
Next Game: Week 4 @ Cowboys
Last Week: 23
B: Their offense can put up points, and their defense can stop people at times. This team could surprise some people and make the playoffs.
E: Goff already seems to have taken a big jump, compared to last year. If he can continue to improve the Rams can win the bad NFC West.
19. Carolina Panthers
Last Game: L, 13-34 vs Saints
Next Game: Week 4 @ Patriots
Last Week: 16
B: The Panthers proved me right again by being the worst 2-0 team around. Now, they are the worse 2-1 team. Cam has regressed into a bad QB.
E: This Offense needs a big kick in the ass, but I don’t think Coach Ron Rivera is the right guy to fix this offense.
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Last Game: L, 17-34 @ Vikings
Next Game: Week 4 vs Giants
Last Week: 8
B: The Bucs got spanked on the road, by Case Keenum. Not a great start for a team that had playoff hopes.
E: The Bucs offense looked pedestrian against a great Vikings defense. If the Bucs don’t get their run game going, they’re going to struggle against the top tier defenses
21. Seattle Seahawks
Last Game: L, 27-33 @ Titans
Next Game: Week 4 vs Colts
Last Week: 13
B: Good news: The Seahawks finally put some points on the board. Bad news: The Seahawks gave up a shit load of points and lost.
E: The Seahawks keep dropping in the rankings. We were already aware of the horrible O-Line, but they also can’t stop the run.
22. Miami Dolphins
Last Game: L, 6-20 @ Jets
Next Game: Week 4 vs Saints
Last Week: 17
B: Ah…. let’s officially welcome Jay Cutler to the NFL season. A miserable performance by Miami.
E: The Real Cutler returned last week against the Jets, with a poor performance. The Dolphins are going to be up and down all season, as long as Cutler is the QB.
Tier 4: Bad….but Not Bad
23. Chicago Bears
Last Game: W, 23-17 v Steelers
Next Game: Week 4 @ Packers (TNF)
Last Week: 29
Brandon: A very impressive Week 3 performance by the Bears. This team may not be as bad as I thought, and they can run the hell out of the ball.
Erick: The Bears backfield is playing great, and they are going to be able to keep the Bears in a lot more games than I thought.
24. Arizona Cardinals
Last Game: L, 17-28 vs Cowboys (MNF)
Next Game: Week 4 vs 49ers
Last Week: 30
B: Cardinals showed signs of life offensively, but the loss of David Johnson hurts them too much in close games.
E: They were able to hang with the Cowboys for a while, but the Cards aren’t good enough to close out games against good teams.
25. New Orleans Saints
Last Game: W, 34-13 @ Panthers
Next Game: Week 4 @ Dolphins
Last Week: 25
B: Drew Brees is still good enough to carry this team to some regular season wins.
E: I’m not buying the Saints at all, beating the Panthers, only confirmed that the Panthers aren’t that good.
26. Los Angeles Chargers
Last Game: L, 10-24 vs Chiefs
Next Game: Week 4 vs Eagles
Last Week: 20
B: The Chargers stink… at winning close games. Philip Rivers has serious issues keeping the ball with his own team.
E: Last week I said that this team could still get to 10 wins, after that horrible performance from Phillip Rivers, I’m going to go ahead and move on from thinking the Chargers are good.
27. Indianapolis Colts
Last Game: W, 31-28 vs Browns
Next Game: Week 4 @ Seahawks
Last Week: 31
B: Jacoby Brissett came out to prove that the Colts don’t stink that much. Two nice games in a row for this team now, as the division might be slipping away. Luck might be back in Week 6.
E: The Colts beat the Browns, but the Colts are still a bad team, so bad that losing to the Colts, dropped the Browns all the way down to last in the rankings.
Tier 5 – Welcome to Shitsville
28. New York Jets
Last Game: W, 20-6 vs Dolphins
Next Game: Week 4 vs Jaguars
Last Week: 32
B: The Jets have more wins than the Giants and this team was favored to win zero games. Kudos to the Jets for beating the Cutler-fins.
E: The Jets beat a bad Dolphins team, but the Jets are in no position to get picky with their wins.
29. New York Giants
Last Game: L, 24-27 @ Eagles
Next Game: Week 4 @ Buccaneers
Last Week: 24
B: This shit-show continues to play each week, and in prime-time games no less. The offensive guru Ben McAdoo is looking offensively bad.
E: The offense woke up a bit, well at least the WR’s did, but the Giants have no run game what so ever.
30. San Francisco 49ers
Last Game: L, 39-41 vs Rams (TNF)
Next Game: Week 4 @ Cardinals
Last Week: 27
B: The 49ers offense finally showed signs of life, but losing a winnable game has been 49er football lately.
E: Just like the Bengals, the 49ers look to be playing better but they’re not winning games, so it’s kind of hard to move the 49ers up in the rankings.
31. Cincinnati Bengals
Last Game: L, 24-27 @ Packers
Next Game: Week 4 @ Browns
Last Week: 27
B: The Bengals find ways to lose. They pushed the Packers to the brink, but ultimately did what they do best.
E: The Bengals looked better, they were able to feed star WR AJ Green, but 0-3 is 0-3 and the Bengals still have some work to do.
32. Cleveland Browns
Last Game: L, 28-31 @ Colts
Next Game: Week 4 vs Bengals
Last Week: 28
B: Back to where they belong. The Browns brief run out of the last spot was fun, but back to reality. This team did pass up on Deshaun Watson.
E: The Browns took the bottom Spot from the Jets after losing to a bad Colts team. It was a battle for the bottom spot, and the Browns won or lost, I guess it depends on how you look at it.
