4. Green Bay Packers (10-6) vs. 5. New York Giants (11-5)
Tier 1 – Locked and Loaded
1. New England Patriots
Last Game: W, 35-14 @ Dolphins
Last Week: 1
Brandon’s Final Statement – Another season, and another AFC East Title and First round bye. Getting ready for what should be a long playoff run. If Brady plays a full 16, he’s the clear-cut MVP. And Gronk back in 2017.
Erick’s Final Statement – The Pats made it look easy again. Belichick can still coach, and Tom is still the man. Tom proved once again that he can get it done with whoever he’s got , after Gronk was injured again. The Pats can definitely still lose in an upset, but until then, they are still the Kings of the Hill.
2. Dallas Cowboys
Last Game: L, 13-27 @ Eagles
Last Week: 2
B – Now it’s time to see if these Rookies play like rookies or MVP’s in the postseason. Elliot should win NFC OROY, even though Dak was almost equally as impressive. Like the tier indicates, this team is loaded for a deep playoff run, that goes through Jerry-World.
E- The Cowboys were the team to beat in the NFC the whole season, and ended as the #1 seed when it was all said and done. They had the best O-line , and running game in the league. Dak was able to prove he was the best man for the job in the regular season, and now he gets to prove his worth when it counts the most.
Tier 2 -The Number Two Contenders
3. Kansas City Chiefs
Last Game: W, 37-27 @ Chargers
Last Week: 3
Brandon’s Final Statement – The Chiefs might be the most complete team (offense, defense, special teams) in the league. Tyreek Hill almost got them the #2 by himself (Carr’s injury helped a little bit).
Erick’s Final Statement – This was the most balanced team in the league this season. Andy Reid, and Alex Smith seem to be on the same page, and this can be the year the Chiefs break through and get to the Super Bowl.
4. Atlanta Falcons
Last Game: W, 38-32 vs. Saints
Last Week: 6
B – Matt Ryan solidified his case for MVP in the final game. My biggest surprise team of the season. Kudos to the coaching staff and the defense for stepping up to the plate.
E – This was a career year for Matty Ice, and the Falcons scored the most Pts/g in 2016 (33.8). If Julio can stay healthy, and the defense can step up, the Falcons are my pick to win the NFC, and get to the Super Bowl.
5. Pittsburgh Steelers
Last Game: W, 27-24 vs. Browns (OT)
Last Week: 4
B – The Steelers ended the season winning seven in a row and they are red hot going into the playoffs. Le’Veon Bell should see the ball a lot in the postseason.
E – The Steelers secondary was suspect all year long, but with Bell, Brown ,and Big Ben they still have a chance to win the AFC and get to the Super Bowl.
6. Green Bay Packers
Last Game: W, 31-24 @ Lions
Last Week: 9
Brandon – Pretty impressive stretch run from MVP candidate Aaron Rodgers. He pretty much willed this team back to the playoffs. Not too sure if they can get past the G-Men.
Erick – Business as usual for Aaron Rodgers, he had an MVP season, and lead the Packers to 6 straight wins to close the season, and win the NFC North. Did were really doubt him?
7. Seattle Seahawks
Last Game: W, 25-23 @ 49ers
Last Week: 8
B – Seahawks are poised to make a deep playoff run, IF the running game can be figured out. Bobby Wagner is one hell of a linebackers, perhaps the best in the league. Underrated DPOY candidate.
E – The Seahawks Offensive line play was suspect all year long, luckily for the Seahawks the NFC West was poor this season, and they still made the playoffs. The good luck continues for the Seahawks as they get to host the struggling Lions Wildcard Weekend.
8. Oakland Raiders
Last Game: L, 6-24 @ Broncos
Last Week: 5
B- They won’t surprise anyone in 2017, but Carr will be back and healthy, AND Former All-Pro LB Aldon Smith should be reinstated as well.
E- The Raiders had a great season and got into the playoffs for the first time in 14 years, too bad they lost Carr , who could be the MVP of the NFL this season, and won’t be able to realize their full potential this season.
9. New York Giants
Last Game: W, 19-10 @ Washington
Last Week: 7
B – Great season for rookie HC Ben McAdoo and his mustache. 11 wins and a playoff berth. Odell gets his first shot at playoff glory on Sunday.
E – The Giants defense has played really well this season, and OBJ is always an X factor. I think the Giants also might be the only team going into the playoffs that might have the Cowboys number.
Tier 3 – Nervewracking
Every time one of these teams plays, it makes their fans nervous wrecks.
10. Detroit Lions
Last Game: L, 21-42 @ Cowboys
Last Week: 11
Brandon Final Statement – We all knew they would lose the final 3, but I’m happy the Lions made the playoffs. Showed what this team could do in a Aaron Rodgers-less world.
Erick Final Statement – The Lions tried their best to miss the playoffs, but still backed their way in, even after losing 3 straight games to end the season. They have nothing to lose now that they’re in, so they can still upset the Seahawks who also don’t look their best heading into the playoffs.
11. Miami Dolphins
Last Game: L, 14-35 vs. Patriots
Last Week: 11
B – Great season by rookie HC Adam Gase, and potentially Coach of the Year. If this team can beat New England on a consistent basis in the regular season, they have a real shot next year. Jay Ajayi is a real monster at RB.
E – The Dolphins never really beat any good teams this season, but beat up on some bad teams and made the playoffs. Wild Card weekend is going to give the Dolphins a chance to prove that they belong .
12. Houston Texans
Last Game: L, 17-24 @ Titans
Last Week: 12
B – Brock is their guy in the postseason, so I don’t expect much. This defense is real legit, and they did it all without JJ Watt. Clowney came into his own. They are a QB away from competing for a Round 1 Bye in 2017.
E – They were the #1 total defense in the regular season, and have one of the best WR’s in the league, but still don’t scare anyone. This is all because of the inefficiencies at QB, they better fix this problem soon, before the window closes for the Texans.
Tier 4 – What Went Wrong?
13. Washington Football Team
Last Game: L, 10-19 vs. Giants
Last Week: 13
B – Washington needed to beat the Giants to be in the postseason, and they did not. Now it’s time to decide what to do with Captain Kirk.
E – That tie might be the end of them.
14. Baltimore Ravens
Last Game: L, 10-27 @ Bengals
Last Week: 14
B – Farewell to Steve Smith, who retired after week 17. Hell of a career. Now it’s time to get weapons for Mighty Joe.
E- Not going to make the playoffs, but they are better than some of the teams that are getting in.
15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Last Game: L, 24-31 @ Saints
Last Week: 15
B – Nine wins is not bad for Tampa Bay. A good season to build on moving forward.
E – Jameis to Evans should be a great combo moving forward.
16. Denver Broncos
Last Game: W, 24-6 vs. Raiders
Last Week: 16
B – Beat a wounded Raiders team to finish above .500. However, they need a QB to get to 10 wins or more.
E – The defense was not able to overcome the offensive inefficiencies this year.
17. Tennessee Titans
Last Game: W, 24-17 vs. Texans
Last Week: 17
B – Titans are my favorite to win the AFC South in 2017.
E – Bad Break for the Mariota, but the Titans should be exited for the future.
18. Indianapolis Colts
Last Game: W, 24-20 vs. Jaguars
Last Week: 18
B – Not too sure this team can pay a top notch RB and O-Lineman. They need to protect Luck, and that is priority number 1.
E – This team better get Luck some help ASAP.
19. New Orleans Saints
Last Game: L, 32-38 @ Falcons
Last Week: 20
B – Another 5k yard season for Brees (5,208 this year & 5th overall) and another 7-9 season for the Saints.
E – Is this the end for the Brees, Payton era?
20. Minnesota Vikings
Last Game: W, 38-10 vs. Bears
Last Week: 22
B – At least the pick they traded for Bradford is in the middle of the pack now (#14 overall). Peterson is out the door.
E – In the end the injuries were just too much to overcome for the Vikings.
21. Buffalo Bills
Last Game: L, 10-30 @ Jets
Last Week: 19
B – Freshly signed Tyrod Taylor is pissed because he was benched by the coach who was just fired. Bills circa 2017! #FreeSammyWatkins
E – Firing the Ryan brothers, was the Bills best call this season.
22. Philadelphia Eagles
Last Game: W, 27-13 vs. Cowboys
Last Week: 21
B – Back to back wins to end the season should help Wentz end on a high note.
E – Wentz is still raw, but can prove to be a piece to build around moving forward.
23. Arizona Cardinals
Last Game: W, 44-6 @ Rams
Last Week: 23
B – David Johnson is a top tier RB. Now the Cards have to replace Michael Floyd.
E – Add them to the list of teams needing a QB for next season.
24. Cincinnati Bengals
Last Game: W, 27-10 vs. Ravens
Last Week: 25
B – Bengals do what they do best…show promise and win when it’s meaningless.
E: Andy Dalton didn’t even get a chance to get bounce in the first game of the playoffs this year.
25. Carolina Panthers
Last Game: L, 16-17 @ Buccaneers
Last Week: 24
B – Hard to believe THIS team won 15 games last season.
E – Really interested to see how this team looks moving forward.
Tier 5 – Dumpster Fires
Welcome to the bottom of the barrel. Being a fan of one of these teams is like being in a dumpster fire. Take our advice and trust us on this one.
26. San Diego Chargers
Last Game: L, 27-37 vs. Chiefs
Last Week: 26
B – Where in the hell is this team going to play next season? PS…they might be good. Keenan Allen & Woodhead returns in 2017. Plus a full off season for Bosa (DROY?).
E – Melvin Gordon, and Bosa are good pieces moving forward, but the Chargers have to find a home first.
27. New York Jets
Last Game: W, 30-10 vs. Bills
Last Week: 28
B – I can’t remember the last time the Jets had someone good playing QB. Get your shit together NY!
28. Chicago Bears
Last Game: L, 10-38 @ Vikings
Last Week: 27
B – Alshon Jeffery said “we will win the super bowl next season”. Maybe he means with whatever team he signs with (not the Bears). Jordan Howard proved he can run the rock, and they have the #3 pick.
E – Barkley came back down to earth, and the Bears got worked by Washington.
29. Jacksonville Jaguars
Last Game: L, 20-24 @ Colts
Last Week: 29
B – I think it’s time for a new QB in Jacksonville. They need a veteran (Brees, Rivers, Cousins) to get the football to the outside. This defense has STUDS.
E – They straight got their hate on against the Titans, and it’s still “ free Allen Robinson “.
30. Los Angeles Rams
Last Game: L, 6-44 vs. Cardinals
Last Week: 30
B – The Rams ended the season being outscored by -136, and on a seven game losing streak (49ers outscored by -75 & Browns outscored by -90 in the final 7, in comparison)
E – The Rams should be ashamed of being the only team the 49ers have beaten this season.
31. San Francisco 49ers
Last Game: L, 23-25 vs. Seahawks
Last Week: 31
B – Fired head coach. Fired GM. Whoever York hires next at least has the #2 pick before he gets fired in 2017.
E – The Niners get the win, to prove they are at least better than the Browns.
32. Cleveland Browns
Last Game: L, 24-27 @ Steelers (OT)
Last Week: 32
B – Browns solidified their place as the #1 pick. They are now on the clock (as if they weren’t in week 1).
E – Finally get the win, now they get to start a new losing streak.
